Student Data Privacy Agreements
Before You Click “Accept”: The Critical Role of the Student Data Privacy Agreement in Public Schools
Student Data Privacy Agreements (SDPAs) bridge the gaps in federal privacy laws (FERPA/COPPA) by legally binding tech vendors to protect student data. They mandate strict encryption, guarantee district ownership of records, and explicitly prohibit companies from tracking, profiling, or selling student information.
Without an SDPA, accepting standard app Terms of Service leaves student data vulnerable to hidden corporate tracking and targeted advertising.
Before using any online tool with students, you must:
Verify whether the resource already has a signed SDPA.
Request a new SDPA for any unapproved resource.
How can I verify or request for the SDPA of a new online resource?
Here are all the resources you need to get set up in minutes
This guide outlines the process for checking if a digital resource or application is approved for use with students in our district, and how to request new resources if they are not yet listed.
Step 1: Check for Approved Resources
Before using a new website, app, or digital tool with students, please verify if it has a signed Student Data Privacy Agreement (SDPA) on file.
Visit the District Search Tool: Click here to search our District's Approved Resources
Search for the Resource: Type the name of the application or website into the search bar to see if it appears on the list of approved vendors.
If the resource appears: It is currently approved for use.
If the resource does NOT appear: It has not yet been vetted or approved. Please proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Request a New Resource
If the resource you wish to use is not listed in the search tool, you must submit a request for it to be reviewed.
Fill out the Request Form: Click here to submit a New Resource Request
Provide Details: Please provide as much information as possible about the resource to help expedite the review process.
What Happens Next?
Once you have submitted your request, the Support Team will review the resource for privacy compliance. They will reach out to you directly to provide updates on the status of your request and let you know if the resource can be approved for classroom use.
